The Riverina Anglican College (TRAC) is a Co-Educational Anglican IB World School located in Wagga Wagga catering for students in Preparatory to Year 12.

The Junior School (Prep - 6) Christian Studies teacher provides leadership, encouragement and pastoral ministry in our Junior School. They gather, inspire, and engage others to connect with Christian Education. They will be an active Christian who understands how to integrate faith and education in relevant and authentic ways within a Junior School context.

Role Accountability (3-Days/Week)

• This position is ultimately responsible to the Principal, via the College Chaplain and Head of Junior School
• The successful applicant must be eligible to work within the ethos and expectations of ministry workers within the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn
• The successful applicant must hold a current Working with Children Check

Key Responsibilities

Implementing and teaching a Junior School Christian Studies curriculum

• Mentoring the Junior Fellowship Captain
• Assisting the College Chaplain with various K-12 services and assemblies, such as Christmas, Easter, ANZAC Day, House Days, Remembrance Day, Presentation Day etc
• Assist with volunteer lunchtime Christian groups in the Junior School
• Participate in weekly Staff Prayer Meetings
• Promote involvement of students with local church youth groups and churches
• Support and promote student involvement in school service activities, programs, tours and visits.

Student and Staff Wellbeing

• Establish and maintain good working relationships with junior students to support their education
• Support programmes which have the benefits and progress of the students at their core

Parent and Community Liaison

• Work with parents of students offering support, guidance and care as required
• Represent the Christian face of the College at functions within the Junior School and the wider community
• Support the College Chaplain in contributing to the pastoral support of students and their families
• Partner with the College Chaplain as a point of connection between local churches and the College community.

Teaching and Learning

• Implementing a new Junior School Christian Studies curriculum for 2025
• Prepare lessons for and teach Christian Studies in the Junior School
• Develop assessment and reporting policies for Christian Studies in the Junior School
• Teach general release lessons in the Junior School
• Assist the integration of Christian perspectives appropriately into the broader curriculum
• Possess knowledge of the NESA policies and be eligible for teacher accreditation
• Liaise with the College Chaplain, Deputy Principal (Teaching, Learning and Innovations) and Head of Junior School on the approach to pedagogy and learning of Junior School students in Christian Studies.

Other Duties

• Provide general leadership, assistance and support to the Chaplaincy and Christian Studies team
• Encourage prayerfulness throughout the College
• Participate in professional learning and development
• Appropriate involvement in the co-curricular life of the College
• Other duties as negotiated by the Principal, College Chaplain and Head of Junior School.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to connect with children and knowledge and practice of evangelistic strategies to children
• Capacity for leadership and contribution to a dynamic team
• Demonstrated capacity to work with young people, preferably in a school setting and ideally through teacher training and experience
• Insight to contribute to College strategic planning and creative and innovative approaches to Christian Studies teaching
• Ability to work collaboratively with others in design of programs with a commitment to clear communication
• Pastoral experience and capacity to nurture and comfort young people, staff and parents in times of need
• It is expected that the Junior School Christian Studies teacher will be a committed member of a gospel-centred local church in Wagga Wagga or surrounds.
