Gäwa Christian School is seeking an Acting Assistant Principal to join our leadership team in 2027 and play an important role in the continued development of our school.
Working alongside the Principal and leadership team, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the school, support staff and students, and help ensure the school operates effectively and continues to provide a high-quality education for every student.
This is an opportunity for an experienced educator and leader who enjoys working collaboratively, building strong relationships and contributing positively to a close-knit community. About Gäwa Christian School
Located on beautiful Galiwin’ku (Elcho Island), Gäwa Christian School opened in 2004 and is an integral and highly respected part of the local community.
Elcho Island is approximately 55 km long and 6 km across at its widest point and is located off the coast of the Northern Territory. Gäwa is situated at the northernmost tip of the island, looked after by the Warramiri clan.
Surrounded by stunning landscapes and sea views, Gäwa offers a unique opportunity to live and work in a remote community while becoming part of a school where relationships and community connections are highly valued.
Gäwa Christian School provides education from Transition to Year 10 and currently has three classes of approximately 10–20 students each:
- GETKIT – Prep to Year 3
- GUKUWAL – Year 4–10 Girls
- MURRYIL – Year 4–10 Boys
The school is an important part of the local community and has established strong relationships with local residents, families and elders.
About the role
As Acting Assistant Principal, you will work closely with the Principal and leadership team across a range of educational, operational and people-focused responsibilities.
You will contribute to:
- Providing effective educational leadership and supporting quality teaching and learning
- Supporting staff to build a positive and collaborative school culture
- Contributing to the implementation of NT Christian Schools’ strategic priorities
- Supporting student engagement, wellbeing and positive behaviour
- Building strong relationships with students, families and the wider community
- Working respectfully with local community members and elders
- Supporting staff development, mentoring and professional growth
- Assisting with the effective day-to-day operation of the school
- Promoting high expectations for student learning and achievement
- Supporting initiatives that strengthen the school and its connection with the community
The role is well suited to someone who is approachable, adaptable, organised and confident working in a remote environment. You will be part of a small team where your leadership, initiative and ability to build genuine relationships will have a direct and meaningful impact.
