Carlton Kogarah Baptist Church is a long-established local church situated in the suburb of Carlton in southern Sydney (also known as the St. George Region), approximately 15 kilometres from Sydney CBD.
Carlton Kogarah Baptist Church is affiliated with Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT and has a strong identity in the community and well-established connections with various community groups within the life of the church.
We are a small congregation that is multi-generational and multi-cultural, seeking to follow Jesus through Biblical teaching, prayer, worship, fellowship, nurturing discipleship, service and mission.
We are a church in transition, having journeyed through a period of significant change, eagerly anticipating the next season that the Lord brings.
We are seeking a part-time Pastor (0.5 FTE), who is:
- A faithful follower of Jesus Christ delivering biblical teaching and discipleship;
- With appropriate theological qualifications from Australia;
- A visionary leader, and a collaborative team player working with the leadership and ministry team, and who would encourage and equip individuals to use their gifts;
- One with a heart for pastoral care and for local outreach ministries of the church.
ACCOUNTABILITIES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS OF MINISTRY
1. Vision. With prayer and God’s guidance, together with the leadership and the ministry team, build a vision for the church by
- Having a disciplined private life, seeking to discover God’s will for his/her own personal ministry and encouraging all in the church to a deeper commitment to prayer;
- Encouraging and supporting the church community to grow in faith and in love for the Lord, ministering in accordance with the Constitution, beliefs and values and Governance Rules of Carlton Kogarah Baptist Church;
- Reporting to the leadership team and to Church meetings.
2. Teaching. Take responsibility for the preaching and teaching ministry of the church by
- Effectively communicating a comprehensive understanding of the Bible and Christian theology, relevant to people's’ lives, so that members of the church may grow in their faith and their love for the Lord;
- Providing teaching and organisation of Sunday services;
- Implementing a program that encourages participation in Sunday services and ministry.
3. Nurturing. Emphasise discipleship and fellowship through
- Providing pastoral care and visitation within the church and through the ministries of the church;
- Overseeing homegroup coordination and teaching topics/programs
4. Growth. Take responsibility in growing our church by
- Seeking to lead people to faith in Jesus Christ as their Saviour;
- Encouraging newcomers and building fellowship
- Being mission-minded and actively reaching out to the local community.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCES
- Relevant theological qualifications as a Christian Minister;
- At least two years of experience in a pastoral leadership role;
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with people of differing ethnic, cultural and professional backgrounds;
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and innovatively.
