The Purpose of the Youth and Young Adults Minister role is to lead and develop the young adults and youth ministry at St Stephen’s in accordance with our mission to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ for Godʼs glory. The role includes identifying and training leaders for youth ministry, leading and facilitating Teen Space, Young Adults Bible Study and Youth Group, and working with the ministry team to create new initiatives furthering the vision of St Stephen’s.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Encourage the spiritual growth and discipleship of youth and young adults.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where young adults, youth and their families feel valued, supported and empowered to grow in their relationship with God and one another.
- Support the care and integration of youth and young adults into the broader life of the church, where appropriate.
- Build connections with young adults, youth and their families, providing pastoral care and following up as required.
- Participate in Sunday worship services (apart from holiday and sickness, and by special arrangement with the Senior Minister), staff meetings and professional supervision and development.
- Lead and coordinate the Sunday Teen Space program for high schoolers, encouraging discussion, deepening of faith and a personal commitment to Jesus.
- Coordinate Young Adults bible study and organise social events, outreach and mission opportunities in conjunction with members.
- Organise and lead Friday Night Youth during school terms, incorporating discipleship with a fun and welcoming program that facilitates invitation of friends and encourages meaningful connections.
- Plan and coordinate Sunday evening church services with a team of dedicated church members.
- Recruit and train a strong team of volunteers to meet both the current and expanded needs of the ministries.
- Communicate to parents, volunteers and staff clearly and regularly via email and other channels.
- Help lead the implementation of our church’s vision and work in partnership with other ministry areas, staff and volunteers.
Key Position Requirements
Essential knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications
- Well-developed communication skills including the ability to engage positively with adults and teenagers in an age-appropriate way.
- Capability to coordinate and lead others to deliver positive outcomes.
- Effective organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to manage, develop and recruit volunteers, recognising and developing people’s skills and callings.
- Experience in working collaboratively in a team and contributing to shared objectives.
- A commitment to personal discipleship, an active prayer life, and a willingness to share your faith story with others.
Desirable
- Tertiary theological or ministry qualifications.
- Experience leading worship services and/or music ministry.
Mandatory requirements

Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Satisfactory National Police Check.
- Right to Work in Australia check.
- Working with Children Blue Card.
- Successful Anglican Church Safe Ministry Check.
- At least 2 years experience in a similar ministry role (paid or volunteer).
- Alignment with the vision and mission of St Stephen’s Church.
