Ready for your next chapter?

Maybe you’ve taken time out of your career, worked part-time while raising a family, run your own business, or reached a point where you’re ready to use your experience in a completely different industry.

Maybe you’re looking at job ads wondering whether your experience still counts.

It does.

We’re looking for someone warm, organised, capable and dependable to become a central part of our accounting practice.

You do not need to be an accountant.

You may come from financial planning, legal, banking, property, administration, operations, small business, project coordination or another client-focused industry.

What matters most is your ability to organise, communicate, build relationships, follow things through and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

About Lighthouse Accountants

Lighthouse Accountants is a growing accounting and advisory practice based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

We work with business owners and families and care deeply about the experience they have with us. We want our clients to feel known, supported and confident that someone is looking after them.

This role sits at the centre of our client service and workflow.

Your job is simple to describe: make sure clients feel cared for and nothing gets forgotten.

What you’ll actually be doing

You’ll become the person who knows:

  • what work has come in
  • who is responsible for it
  • what information we’re waiting for
  • when it’s due
  • what needs chasing
  • and whether the client has been kept informed

You’ll work closely with our Senior Accountant/Manager and broader team to keep work moving through the practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Being a warm and trusted point of contact for our clients.
  • Making clients feel welcome, remembered and genuinely cared for.
  • Coordinating work coming into and moving through the practice.
  • Monitoring deadlines, outstanding information and next steps.
  • Following up clients and team members when something is needed.
  • Keeping clients updated on the progress of their work.
  • Coordinating client meetings, onboarding, proposals and follow-up actions.
  • Keeping workflow and client systems accurate and up to date.
  • Identifying potential delays or problems before they become urgent.
  • Helping improve our systems, templates and processes as you learn the role.

As you grow into the position, you’ll take increasing ownership of the day-to-day client service and workflow coordination across the practice.

You’ll probably love this role if…

  • You get genuine satisfaction from bringing order to chaos.
  • You’re warm and chatty but also notice details other people miss.
  • If someone says they’ll send something Friday and it doesn’t arrive, you remember on Monday.
  • You’re comfortable politely chasing people.
  • You like knowing what’s happening rather than being surprised by problems.
  • You naturally think, “there must be a better way to do this.”
  • You want responsibility and ownership, not just a list of tasks.
  • You enjoy being the person other people can rely on.
  • You’re comfortable speaking up when something isn’t working.
  • You like finishing things properly.

You’re probably already the person other people rely on to remember what needs doing, follow things up and make sure plans actually happen.

You may have developed those skills through professional roles, running a business, managing projects, coordinating a household—or a combination of all of them.

Experience that would be helpful

Experience in accounting, financial planning, legal or another professional services environment would be highly regarded, but it is not essential.

We’d also love to hear from people with backgrounds in:

  • Office or practice administration
  • Executive or personal assistance
  • Banking, finance or insurance
  • Property or real estate
  • Project or event coordination
  • Operations
  • Client or customer service
  • Small or family business

A non-linear career path will not count against you.

If you’ve taken time away from the workforce, changed direction, worked around family commitments or are ready to return to a more substantial role, we’re interested in the experience you bring now.

What we can teach you

You do not need to understand tax law.

We can teach you our accounting terminology, systems and processes and how work moves through an accounting practice.

What is much harder to teach is:

  • warmth
  • judgement
  • initiative
  • organisation
  • accountability
  • follow-through
  • genuine care for people

That’s what we’re hoping you’ll bring.

Work that fits around life

We know talented people don’t all want a traditional 8:30am–5:00pm working week.

We’re open to 3, 4 or 5 days per week and shorter working days for the right person.

We do need you available from 9:00am or 9:30am at the latest, as mornings are important for team communication, workflow planning and client enquiries.

From there, we’re flexible about what the other end of your day looks like.

A 9:00am–2:30pm, 9:00am–3:00pm or similar arrangement may work well depending on your days and experience.

The salary range is $62,500–$70,000 + superannuation FTE, depending on experience, and will be pro-rated to your agreed days and hours.

A role you can make your own

We’re not looking for someone to simply complete administrative tasks.

We want someone who will learn our clients, understand how the practice operates and gradually become the person the team trusts to keep things moving.

As you settle in, we want you to suggest improvements, question inefficient processes and shape the role around your strengths.

There is genuine room to grow into greater responsibility over time.

What success looks like

Once you’ve settled into the role:

  • Clients know you and trust you.
  • You have a clear picture of what is happening across the practice.
  • Deadlines and outstanding information are actively followed up.
  • Potential issues are identified early.
  • Clients are kept informed rather than having to chase us.
  • The accounting team can focus on accounting because you are keeping the workflow moving.
  • Leadership no longer needs to be involved in every day-to-day client and workflow issue.
  • You’ve started improving systems and making the role your own.

Most importantly, you’ll become someone our clients and team can genuinely rely on.

Thinking about applying?

If this role sounds like you but you don’t tick every box, we still want to hear from you.

You might be returning to work after a career break. You might be changing industries. You might have years of experience that don’t fit neatly into a conventional CV.

Don’t underestimate what you already know how to do.

We’re looking for capability, warmth, initiative, organisation and life experience—not a perfectly linear career path.

To apply, please send us your CV and a short note answering one question:

Tell us about a time when you were the person who kept everything organised and made sure nothing fell through the cracks.
