About the Role

The Newtown Pastor role is one the key ministry positions within Newtown Mission. Working closely with the Senior Minister to develop a culture of discipleship grounded in the distinctives of Newtown Mission (growing faith, celebrating diversity, valuing creativity, generous hospitality, seeking justice). The Newtown Pastor will take a key role in pastoral care and leadership development for the faith community.

Key Responsibilities

This role has responsibility for the following main areas:

• Working with the Senior Minister to develop a culture of discipleship formation centered upon the distinctives within the Newtown Mission Strategic Plan
• Leadership development in under 40’s
• Worship on Sunday morning and Thursday evening
• Resourcing leadership development across Newtown Mission, with a particular focus upon small groups, worship and music
• Offering personal pastoral care to individuals
• Assisting in the development of a pastoral care strategy across the life of Newtown Mission

In addition to those outlined above, essential requirements of the role include:

• Reading and understanding the Basis of Union, and having a preparedness to work within the polity and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia
• Abiding by the policies and procedures of the Uniting Church in Australia Synod of NSW and the ACT
• Having a genuine willingness to embrace challenges as they arise and to work flexibly in support of the overall key objectives of the Uniting Church in Australia
• A willingness to work a flexible schedule when required
• Following policy and procedures in relation to workplace health and safety
• Participating in maintaining a safe working environment for both self and others in the workplace

About You

Essential

• Qualification in Theology, Ministry or Mission
• Experience working in pastoral ministry and/or missional third spaces
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable

• Understanding of mental health issues and management strategies
• Familiarity with Creative Arts sector
• Demonstrated ability to manage a team of staff and volunteers
• Familiarity with the Uniting Church in Australia
