ChaplainWatch is a faith-based, non-profit chaplaincy organisation. Our history:

What is the role?

Having provided NightWatch Chaplaincy in Brisbane since 2001, ChaplainWatch has been delivering ‘Safe Night PrecinctSupport Services’ to the Sunshine Coast since 2020 and we're looking for someone to continue the management of this well-established ministry in Maroochydore.

NightWatch Chaplains work overnight in the late-night entertainment precincts, watching out for anyone at risk, in need orin crisis.

Our NightSafe Rest and Recovery facility on Ocean St is a safe place for those whose good times have gone bad during their night out, providing rest and recovery, first aid, support and monitoring by qualified team members during Friday and Saturday nights and on public holidays.

As Team Leader of the NightWatch Chaplains, you’ll be leading a team on the frontline in your city's night-time entertainment precinct. You will also be responsible for the coordination, development and promotion of NightWatch Chaplains in the Sunshine Coast, including rostering, compliance management, service planning and stakeholder relationship development.

What are the hours?

1-year contracted position (with likely permanent role offered after 1 year). 30 hours per week, including overnight shifts on weekends and public holidays. Some flexibility and variation required for training, meetings and service development.

What you will be doing?

• Leading a small team of staff and volunteers proactively patrolling the entertainment precinct by foot and vehicle overnight to promote public safety in public spaces, ensuring safety, quality of service, record keeping and training compliance.
• Undertaking support, training and development activities for your team.
• Assertively outreaching to assist people in need. This includes people who are: intoxicated by alcohol or other drugs,sick, injured, in need of safety, lost or confused, in need of care or who are demonstrating aggression and agitation.
• Leading a range of trained interventions to provide care and support within the precinct.
• Role modelling, providing complex intervention support and situational briefing and debriefing and, ensuring compliance with policy and procedure and reporting requirements.
• Working alongside precinct stakeholders including venue staff and security, taxi drivers, council workers, buskers,police and emergency services. This will include attending regular stakeholder meetings, promotional events etc, as the ChaplainWatch representative in your city.
• Service development and promotion.
• Working with the ChaplainWatch events team to promote and fundraise for the NightWatch service.

Who you are:

First and foremost, you are someone who is a practicing Christian and regularly attends a church on the Sunshine Coast. Someone who genuinely seeks to get their hands dirty in a practical ministry context and who is willing to serve others with compassion, acceptance, confidentiality and dignity.

You are someone with demonstrated resilience and the ability to respond appropriately and lead others in highly dynamic situations, typified by distraction, confrontation, tension and aggression.

You have an understanding of the principles and values of Christianity, a demonstrated understanding of a chaplaincy approachand an understanding of ChaplainWatch and you can apply this understanding to your work.

You enjoy balancing frontline leadership with background team management, administration and support.

What you bring:

• Current First Aid certificates or the ability to acquire ASAP,
• A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check QLD) or the ability to acquire ASAP,
• A certificate or above in the areas of ministry, theology, community services, human services or a medical or welfare field,
• A current open Driver’s Licence,
• Practiced risk assessment and situational awareness skills,
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to use word processing, email, web browsers and database programs,
• Willingness to undertake a National Police Check.

Your previous experience includes:

• Led a team/s to deliver services within a fast-paced environment,
• Worked or volunteered in a chaplaincy, Christian ministry or similar role,
• Work effectively with a diverse range of service users, stakeholders, staff and volunteers.
• Work according to policies and procedures in an environment requiring clear decision making in a small team.
• Undertake training and professional development.
• Practiced risk assessment and situational awareness skills.
