Secondary Classroom Teacher (Science) - Potential to include Wellbeing Advisor Role

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic educator with passion and experience in Science with the ability to teach Physics or Chemistry desirable but not essential.

Position Summary
The Science Classroom Teacher will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within a collaborative professional environment. The role requires a teacher who demonstrates strong curriculum knowledge, and the ability to plan, deliver and assess effective learning programs that promote student engagement, achievement and growth. The teacher will take responsibility for ongoing professional development and actively support the vision, mission and values of the College.

Reports to: Head of Faculty
Status and Hours: Full time, permanent position
Student supervision hours are 8 am – 3.30 pm, although an understanding is required that the role will require greater hours than this, including attendance at weekly staff meetings and other after-hours events.
Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0
Commencement Date: Term 1, 2027

Major Responsibilities
The Secondary Science Teacher will demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, fostering an engaging, inclusive and safe classroom and laboratory environment that supports student growth, wellbeing and achievement. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Plan, implement and evaluate rigorous and engaging Science teaching and learning programs, clearly articulating learning intentions, success criteria and assessment strategies aligned with syllabus requirements.
• Establish and maintain high academic and behavioural expectations that promote a culture of respect, responsibility and excellence in learning.
• Actively engage in professional growth processes, including goal setting, coaching and learning sprints, to continuously strengthen pedagogical practice.
• Monitor and promote the academic progress, wellbeing and holistic development of students in their care.
• Provide timely, constructive and targeted feedback to support student improvement and deepen learning.
• Ensure safe and effective laboratory practices, including the preparation, use and storage of scientific equipment and materials, in accordance with College policies and WHS requirements.
• Contribute to and support the implementation of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) practices within the Science faculty, including risk assessment, incident reporting, and the maintenance of a safe learning environment.
• Contribute to the co-curricular life of the College through active participation in programs, activities and events.
• Model Christian character in all aspects of professional practice and support the spiritual development of students.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to strengthen teaching practice and contribute to a positive staff culture aligned with the College’s values of courage, curiosity, craftsmanship, collaboration and compassion.

Professional and Personal Attributes
The Secondary Science Teacher is required to demonstrate strong relational and professional capacity, with the ability to build effective partnerships with students, staff and parents to enhance student wellbeing and learning outcomes. Essential criteria for this role include:

• A personal commitment to the Christian faith, evidenced by active involvement in a local church, and the capacity to support and model the vision, mission and Christian ethos of the College.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications to teach Stage 4–6 Science and current NESA teacher accreditation (or eligibility to obtain).
• Demonstrated knowledge of syllabus requirements and the ability to design and deliver engaging, contemporary teaching and learning programs that incorporate a range of pedagogical approaches, including explicit teaching, inquiry and problem-solving, to develop students’ critical thinking.
• A sound understanding of assessment practices, including assessment for, as and of learning, and the ability to use data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes.
• Demonstrated capacity to effectively integrate technology to enhance teaching, learning and student engagement.
• A clear understanding of, and commitment to, student wellbeing, including the ability to support the holistic development of students.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, including risk assessment and safe laboratory practices, and the capacity to maintain compliance with relevant policies and legislation in a school setting.
• Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively as part of a professional team.
• A commitment to contributing to the co-curricular and broader life of the College.
• A reflective, proactive and growth-oriented approach to professional practice, with a demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning.

Desirable Criteria

• A familiarity with Growth Mindset, Habits of Mind, and Visible Thinking / Cultures of Thinking which underpin our Learning Power Approach to teaching and learning.
• Understanding and experience in use of restorative practices within a student wellbeing framework.
• Qualifications and/or willingness to teach Stage 6 Chemistry or Physics is desirable.

Salary: In accordance with the Independent Schools (Teachers) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025 or future approved agreement.
