MOSMAN PREP is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Finance and Payroll Officer to join our Operations Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys working in a dynamic school environment and contributing to both financial excellence and operational effectiveness.

Reporting directly to the Director of Business Operations, the role provides practical support and oversight across all finance and payroll processes, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance. This is a hands-on position requiring a high level of accountability, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to effectively partner with stakeholders across the Operations team and Faculty staff. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of a critical function while contributing to ongoing process improvements and systems optimisation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accounts & Ledger Management: Process supplier invoices, prepare weekly payment runs, manage electronic payments, and run the end-to-end accounts receivable function (including tuition fee invoicing, ancillary income, and debtor management).
  • General Accounting: Maintain the General Ledger (including preparation of journals and monthly balance sheet reconciliations), and manage the School’s Asset Register and Leave Register.
  • Payroll Processing: Prepare and process the end-to-end payroll function on a fortnightly basis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable Multi Enterprise Agreements, PAYG obligations, and superannuation remittances.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Assist with month-end processing, management reporting preparation, actual versus budget analysis, and delivery of monthly variance reporting.
  • Enquiry & Stakeholder Support: Respond professionally to staff queries regarding pay slips, tax, superannuation, and leave, as well as finance enquiries from parents and the school community.
  • Year-End & Projects: Support budget preparation, audit coordination, and year-end financial reporting requirements, while taking ownership of process improvements and system enhancement projects.

    Selection Criteria and Experience Required
  • CA or CPA qualified with strong technical accounting expertise.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a senior financial accounting role. Advanced financial reporting, reconciliation, and technical accounting skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated strong experience in financial accounting and payroll systems. Advanced IT proficiency, including Microsoft 365 with strong Excel capability. (Exposure to school or not-for-profit environments is highly regarded but not essential) .
  • High level of professionalism, including discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll and financial information.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, oral/written communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Working knowledge of work health and safety legislation and child protection requirements.
