Café Manager

Crossway is seeking an experienced, hospitality-driven leader to join our team as Café Manager, overseeing an extension of our church ministry expressed through café hospitality.

The Café Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Crossway Café, ensuring a warm, welcoming environment for all customers and a well-supported, high-performing experience for staff and volunteers. This role leads the café team in delivering high-quality food and beverages, exceptional customer service, and efficient daily operations, while maintaining strong alignment with Crossway’s mission, values, and Christian ethos.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operations of the Crossway Café, ensuring smooth, efficient, and high-quality service
• Lead, support, and develop café staff and volunteers, fostering a positive, collaborative, and service-focused team culture
• Manage rostering and staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage and effective daily operations
• Oversee food ordering, stock control, and supplier relationships to ensure consistent supply, quality, and cost efficiency
• Maintain strong food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards in line with Victorian food safety legislation and best practice requirements
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including the Food Act 1984 (VIC) and the FSANZ Food Standards Code, as well as applicable local council requirements
• Support consistent menu execution, presentation standards, and product quality
• Oversee café administration, reporting, and operational processes
• Create and maintain a welcoming, Christ-centred hospitality environment for all customers, staff, and visitors
• Contribute to continuous improvement in café systems, service delivery, and customer experience

About You

• Experience managing or supervising a café, food service, or hospitality operation, with demonstrated ability to lead a small team
• Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or Food Handlers Certificate as a minimum, with willingness to complete Supervisor certification upon commencement)
• Demonstrated knowledge of Victorian food safety legislation, including the Food Act 1984 and FSANZ Food Standards Code
• Barista experience and strong coffee knowledge are highly desirable
• Experience with stock control, ordering, rostering, and basic café administration
• Experience in, or genuine affinity with, a church, not-for-profit, or community-focused organisation is an advantage
• Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
