  • Promote social justice, equal rights and opportunities for women & children
  • Lead this INGO within the spirit of Mary Ward and the Loreto Sisters
  • CEO style opportunity with a focus on fundraising

The Organisation

Mary Ward International Australia (MWIA) is the aid and development organisation of the Loreto Sisters of Australia and South East Asia, working in Australia and across eight countries. As part of a global Loreto Education, Social Justice and UN network, MWIA supports projects that alleviate poverty and create sustainable change. Particular emphasis is placed on assisting women to transform unjust structures which keep them oppressed and marginalised.

MWIA is a full member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), accredited by the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) and endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient

The Role

Reporting to the Province Leader, and a supportive board, this hands-on role is responsible for developing and maintaining the effectiveness, strategic direction and sustainability of MWIA. Broadening the financial and donor base will be a major focus in the short to medium term of your tenure. The major areas of responsibility are:
  • Effective leadership and governance of the team, projects and initiatives
  • Development and effective implementation of the strategic plan
  • Expanding the fundraising base with a focus on philanthropy and key stakeholders
  • Acting as a public representative and ambassador
  • Advocating to address the justice and human rights issues
  • Ensure effective risk management and statutory and regulatory compliance.

Skills Required

You have held hands-on leadership positions in aid and development agencies (that are ideally ACFID & DFAT accredited) or like-minded institutions. You have a deep understanding of best practice in relation to program creation and delivery in a national and international environment.

Crucially, you have been responsible for fundraising as a CEO, or program or fundraising director. You will have previous experience working with a board and multiple external stakeholders, preferably in a faith-based organisation. Specifically, you can demonstrate experience in:
  • Strategic planning, budget development and financial management
  • Governance and experience working with a board
  • Fundraising and the sustainability of organisations
  • Leading and managing staff.

If you are passionate about making a positive difference in the areas of education, community development, human rights, social justice and the empowerment of women and children, and are willing to work within the ethos of the Loreto Sisters, then please apply with your cover letter responding to the skills required above and resume quoting reference #396550.
