YOUTH & COMMUNITY WORKERS

(2 Full Time and one Part Time Maternity Leave)
 

Fusion Australia is a not-for-profit international Christian youth & community development organisation, with over 60 years’ experience in youth work.  We are seeking a qualified/experienced Youth Worker to join our Youth and Family Services team based in St Marys and delivering programs in local high schools, remand centre and community locations in Western Sydney.  Fusion provides early intervention programs, in-school youth workers, outreach programs, parenting courses and individual support and referral.
 

This position is funded by the NSW F&CS under the Targeted Earlier Intervention Program.
 

The methodology and approach Fusion uses is based on a positive psychology model and strengths-based approach to working with young people. The successful applicants will be in local high schools each morning and community settings in the afternoon. We are seeking energetic and inspiring people to work with high-school aged youth.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in youth work
  • Willingness to work within the framework of Christian values
  • Capacity to network with other agencies so young people access services as needed
  • Ability to relate effectively with young people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to work with young people to build social skills and resolve conflict
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and build a healthy culture in groups
  • Capacity to facilitate classroom learning in high schools
  • Current Drivers Licence and comprehensively insured vehicle for work-related travel

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience managing young people with challenging behaviours
  • Reflective Professional Practice.


It is an offence under the Commission for Children and Young People Act, 1998 for a “prohibited person” to apply for this position.  Relevant Criminal History, Apprehended Violence Orders and prior employment checks, including relevant disciplinary proceedings, will be required for recommended applicants.
 

A Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check will be required for this position from the suitable applicant, due to the nature of the work involved.   Compliance with the new WWCC will be expected.
 

The successful applicant would receive ongoing in-service training and regular supervision, and would have opportunities for support and development within the wider Fusion Western Sydney team, where innovation and initiative are encouraged.
