About the role

The Safeguarding Consultant will lead the implementation of the Child and Vulnerable People Safety Framework across the organisation in Victoria and other states as required.

Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Providing specialist advice to Divisional Leaders, Officers, Program Managers and others regarding risks to children and vulnerable people.
  • Providing expert safeguarding risk assessments, and management of allegations of abuse and/or misconduct.
  • Ensure all safeguarding processes are implemented as required
  • Managing investigation processes as required.
  • Coordinate and facilitate safeguarding training and development as required.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have proven experience in assessing safeguarding risks ideally gained from either a church-based or other not for profit organisation. You will have exceptional relationship building and engagement skills and come from a child protection background with the ability to lead change.

A strong working knowledge of child safe, youth and vulnerable people legislation is essential, along with previous experience in assessing safeguarding risks. You will be able to handle confidential information in a professional manner, be self-motivated and able to work in a highly proactive environment where children and vulnerable people’s welfare is the top priority. 

A degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or Social Work would be ideal, as well as a current driver’s license, a current working with children and national police check or the ability to get these. This is a face to face role, and as such will involve frequent intrastate travel. An on-call roster system will also be put in place to cover weekends and holiday periods, so you will need to be comfortable working flexible hours.

Your ability to be adaptable to change, emotional resilience, and excellent communication skills will lead to your success in this meaningful role.

The Salvation Army is a Child Safe Organisation. All child facing roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. Applicants for all other roles require a mandatory National Police Check.
