Job Description and Person Specification

This is a full-time position, but consideration may be given to suitable applicants who would prefer less than full-time employment.

Primary Objective
The primary objective of the Church Governance Coordinator is, through a relational approach, encourage and equip Church Leaders (of the affiliated churches who form the Conference of Churches of Christ in South Australia and Northern Territory Inc. (CoCSANT)) to develop and put into effect strong, compliant and sustainable governance practices for their various organisations and programs.

Scope of Works
Working with a relational approach, the Church Governance Coordinator will be responsible for:
  1. Creating awareness within the Churches as to their Governance and Leadership responsibilities and requirements and guiding churches in the development of strong and sustainable governance practices.
  2. Creating training opportunities for Church leaders and administrators pertaining to risk, liabilities and compliance.
  3. Maintaining and implementing child safety systems and training.

Term of Appointment
As a newly created position, the Church Governance Coordinator initial term is a 1-year full-time position with scope for ongoing appointment subject to finances. Periodic performance reviews will be performed with a full review at the end of the first year and as appropriate during subsequent contracts. A probationary period of three months will apply.

Qualifications and Experience
In order to fulfil this role, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strategy for, or an ability to:
  • Contact and build relationships with church leaders
  • Have a solid understanding of and experience in the adaptation of good governance and legislated requirements
  • Communicate legislation and governance well
  • Resist being drawn into combative situations
  • Keep up to date with Federal and State Legislations, ATO and ACNC rulings, DHS and child safety requirements.
For the purposes of the Church Governance Coordinator, it is preferable that the successful applicant has at minimum, a tertiary qualification in a business related field, and/or can demonstrate a working knowledge of the equivalent skills.

A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a) congregational or senior church leadership or b) not for profit or charity sector, will be recognised as an asset for this position.
