Summit Educational Camps, the division within CRU® that runs fully programmed camps for school groups during term times, is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Christian to join its team of Outdoor Educators.

The Outdoor Educator is the role within Summit that is primarily involved in the planning and running (which we call ‘directing’) of camp programs for Summit school camps. As a camp ‘director’, the Outdoor Educator will co-ordinate teams of other staff in the running of camp programs, liaise with teachers regarding their aims and outcomes for camp, and deliver the Christian talks on camp. Summit seeks to provide schools with an educationally exceptional camp experience for their students that keeps the schools coming back, in order to best support CRU’s mission of reaching people with the gospel of Jesus.

Key responsibilities:
  1. Attending approximately 18 to 22 Summit camps during the year (the exact number to be determined by the Director of Summit, based on the administrative demands of the position);
  2. Preparing for and directing the majority of Summit camps attended, which involves liaising with teachers, managing a team of camp leaders, delivering Christian talks, running outdoor activities, as well as pre-camp and post-camp administration;
  3. Being a director, speaker or leader on 2-3 CRU Holiday Camps, including CRU Day Camps;
  4. Providing guidance, mentoring and training for staff in our training roles.

Qualifications and Experience:
  1. A mature and consistent Christian faith with active involvement in a Christian church with sound biblical teaching;
  2. A commitment to and belief in the value of camping for providing a positive environment for evangelism, and a willingness to be involved in such programs;
  3. Experience working with school-aged children, including leading on camps, serving in church kids and/or youth ministries, running games, co-ordinating sports or facilitating outdoor activities;
  4. Experience and ability in preparing and presenting Christian talks and small group studies;
  5. Ability to work independently, and within a team, and the ability to lead a team of  up to 20 other leaders.
