Korus Connect, in partnership with the ROC Whitehorse Community Action group is seeking a qualified and passionate individual to work as a Community Connector (0.5 FTE) at Box Hill Central. This exciting new initiative seeks to provide holistic care to individuals, families and the broader community. The position is currently funded for a 6 month pilot with a view that ongoing funding will be raised.

The role involves providing guidance on important issues such as spirituality, ethics, values and pastoral care. Additionally the role will create collaboration and connection between community-based organisations, public services, welfare agencies and local businesses in order to strengthen community and provide a holistic response to community needs. The Community Connectors role is to respect, accept and be sensitive to other peoples’ views, values and beliefs.

Responsibilites include:
  • Caring for the spiritual, physical, emotional and intellectual needs of the Box Hill Central community irrespective of culture, faith or cultural background, by way of confidential pastoral care
  • Providing, facilitating or be active involvement in weekly wellbeing programs or activities within Box Hill Central
  • Liaising with various external agencies as necessary
  • Acting as an advocate and mediator between members of the community in a way that reflects the notions of reconciliation
  •  Upon request, supporting individuals to develop their spiritual wellbeing
  • Facilitating community engagement in existing local church provided community programs.

Job Requirements:

To be successful in the role you will have the following:
  • Minimum Cert IV in Youth Work, Pastoral Care or equivalent (Education, Social Sciences/Counselling) - including units in mental health and referral.
  • A personal commitment to Christian faith and values and adherence to Korus Connect’s Statement of Faith.
  • An endorsement from a Minister, Priest, Pastor or Leader from the Christian faith community you regularly attend and are actively engaged in fellowship.
  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge in:
    • Working effectively within a community setting with a diversity of people
    • Working within a team and communicating with a range of people in a range of settings
    • Understanding of community-based organisations, public services and welfare agencies
    • A valid Working with Children Check and Police Check.
