• Work with an intercultural group of young people aged 12 to 26  leading them on their Christian faith journey
• Based in Deepdene Uniting Church
• Part Time .4 EFT 6 month initial contract
• Potential for extension of role to include Pastoral work
• Will involve Sunday work and attendance at worship.

Ministry to the Deepdene congregation is provided by an English speaking Minister of the Word and a Korean speaking Minister of the Word.  A worship service in both English and Korean is held each Sunday morning.

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced committed Christian Youth Worker with an energetic and proven ability to work with young people to coordinate, develop and deliver programs for teenagers and young people aged 12 to 25 and to lead and mentor them in their Christian faith journey.  Integral to your success will be your capacity to work with a group of intercultural youth from mainly Korean and English speaking backgrounds. 

You will be required to develop and deliver targeted programs and social activities suitable to a range of youth, including conducting Sunday School for teenagers and bible study programs for youth/young adults.  As many of the young adults are students with no family support, you may be required to link young people to appropriate services, together with your ability to establish effective working relationships with Ministers of the Word and network with other churches in the region.

You will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Check with satisfactory outcome and apply / hold a valid Working with Children Check (E) Card.  Travel may be required therefore you will need to hold a current Victorian Driver’s licence.

Job Requirements:

The Youth Worker will be required to coordinate, develop and deliver programs and resources for teenagers and young people aged 12 to 25 years and to raise the profile of Christian ministry in the congregation and the local community.  They will be a committed Christian who brings energy, creativity and enthusiasm to:
• coordinate, develop, and deliver programs and resources for teenagers, and young people and for the growth of the youth program
• assist in the development and implementation of an innovative and dynamic program for young people in the congregation and the community
• provide pastoral oversight for young people within the congregation for their development
• be an on-the-ground practitioner in the youth ministry area as required
•  work co-operatively with other youth workers, both within the Uniting Church and in other churches in the region
• be a resource person within the youth ministry area

The Youth Worker will be required to work closely with, and develop and maintain strong relationships within the church community, including with regional congregations and with congregations within the Presbytery of Yarra Yarra and with the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.

The Youth Worker will be advised and assisted in relation to their work within the congregation and the wider community by the Ministers.  If requested by the Youth Worker a support group from within the congregation can be negotiated with the Church Council Executive.
